Prohibited use

Guidelines for using the Canva MCP server

The Canva MCP server is a powerful tool that provides access to Canva's design capabilities. To maintain service quality and protect our users, we enforce strict acceptable use policies.

Violations of these policies may result in access being revoked or your client being blocked from using the Canva MCP.

Prohibited use cases

Bulk asset or design extraction

Any use primarily intended to export designs from Canva into a third-party design platform or system is explicitly prohibited unless Canva provides express written consent.

Even if content isn't being sent to a competing platform, automated extraction or scraping of content or data from Canva is also prohibited.

Reverse-engineering Canva's platform or API

Any use of the MCP that attempts to reverse-engineer how Canva's platform works is explicitly prohibited. This includes:

  • How designs are structured internally
  • How brand kits store and apply brand data
  • How assets are served
  • Any other proprietary technical details

This applies even if the goal is internal tooling rather than a competing product.

Building a competitive product

Accessing the MCP tools for the purpose of building or marketing a product or service that competes with Canva is prohibited.

AI and ML training

Using the MCP and the resources it can access to train, develop, or improve AI or machine learning models is prohibited.

Enforcement

Canva monitors for violations of these policies. If we detect activity that violates these guidelines, we may:

  • Revoke your MCP access
  • Block your client from using the MCP server
  • Take additional legal action if warranted
